Hold On To Good News – Life Stories 211
You know, it might seem like every day brings a new stress or challenge, but today, we’re here to remind you that the world isn’t as bad as it sometimes seems. Yes, there’s work to be done and things that can feel discouraging, but it’s also true that we’re making progress, even when it doesn’t feel like it. It’s important to remember the strides we’ve made as a society. Sure, not everything moves as fast as we’d like, but we’re trying, and in many ways, we’re doing pretty well.
There will always be people who seem to have values vastly different from our own, but at the same time, there are countless others doing incredible things, working to make the world better. Stress and negativity, though, are motivation killers. What keeps us going, what drives us to get up and move forward, are inspiring stories and positive news. And here’s something powerful to hold onto: you’re living in the safest, healthiest time in human history.
Let’s start with a story of hope. In the early 1990s, Alan Piazza, a Stanford University professor, visited some of the most remote and impoverished villages in China. At that time, people lived in caves without electricity, clean water, or enough food. Entire villages were on the brink of starvation. Around the same time, sub-Saharan Africa, particularly Tanzania, faced similar struggles—lacking infrastructure, food, and healthcare. It seemed like an impossible task to turn these places around.
Yet today, China has eradicated extreme poverty, and Tanzania has cut its poverty rate in half. Families who once had nothing now live in solid homes with access to healthcare, clean water, and electricity. These are places where life seemed hopeless, but through concerted efforts, transformation happened. Poverty won’t solve all the world’s problems, but lifting people out of it brings better health, more opportunities for education, and stronger communities.
Think about the ripple effect—how much better the world becomes when people move beyond mere survival. This progress is proof that every small act matters. Whether it’s donating money, offering a kind word, or sharing a meal, those ripples spread and create waves of change.
We can’t allow ourselves to be consumed by negative news, but we also can’t expect good news to come to us as easily. That’s not how media works. We need to seek out the good, to fuel our motivation when everything seems bleak. Positive stories are happening all around us, and if you look for them, you’ll find them.
There are incredible people out there, doing incredible things, and guess what? You’re one of them. Your journey toward self-reflection, growth, and well-being is impacting the lives of everyone around you. The world is full of beauty and hope. On those days when doubt creeps in, when everything feels like it’s falling apart, remember to seek out the good. We need to hold onto it. It’s the fuel we all need to embrace another day.
Now, here’s a small task for you: today, find three positive news stories. Think about the people who made these stories possible, and how their actions changed someone’s life. Get inspired by the everyday acts of kindness and courage happening all around us. And who knows? Maybe the next story we hear will be yours.
